Sworn (asseverated) translations with legal validity in Italy
A sworn translation, called an asseverated translation (traduzione asseverata) in Italy, is a translation accompanied by a sworn statement in which the translator declares before a public official that the document has been faithfully translated. Italian town halls, police headquarters, prefectures, universities, notaries and courts require it whenever a foreign document is used in Italy, or an Italian document is presented abroad.
What is included
- Oath taken at the Court (Tribunale), a Justice of the Peace or a notary, as required by the receiving authority.
- Translation, original (or certified copy) and sworn statement bound and stamped as a single file.
- Italian stamp duty (marca da bollo) applied as required by law, except where exemptions apply.
- On request we add the apostille or legalization, so you receive a document ready to use abroad.

What is the difference between a sworn and a certified translation?
A sworn translation has legal validity in Italy thanks to the oath taken before a public official. A certified translation comes with a signed statement of accuracy from the translator or agency, and is enough for many private uses and for many foreign authorities.
Do you need the original document?
A clear scan is enough for the quote. For the oath, the translation is bound to the original or to a certified copy: we tell you exactly what to send.
How long does it take?
