Apostille for Italian documents and sworn translations
The apostille is the certification established by the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961. It confirms the authenticity of the signature and the capacity of the public official who signed a document. In countries that are party to the Convention, it replaces consular legalization.

Who issues apostilles in Italy?
The Procura della Repubblica (Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court) for court documents, notarial deeds and sworn translations; the Prefettura for administrative documents. In the Aosta Valley and in the provinces of Trento and Bolzano, administrative documents are handled by the Regional Presidency and the Government Commissioner's Office respectively.
Does the apostille go on the original or on the translation?
It depends on the country and the authority. Two apostilles are often needed: one on the original document and one on the sworn translation. We specify this in your quote.
How do I know whether a country is party to the Hague Convention?
The up-to-date list is published by the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH). We check it for every case, as new countries join over time.
